We are deeply saddened to announce the tragic passing of Air Interdiction Agent Robert “Bob” Cox, who died in an off-duty aircraft incident on April 9. His sudden loss is felt profoundly by his family, friends, and colleagues across the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the wider aviation and military communities.
Bob’s life was defined by unwavering service, dedication, and courage. He began his career in the U.S. Army before going on to serve with distinction in the United States Marine Corps as a Cobra attack helicopter pilot. Throughout his military service, he earned a reputation as a skilled aviator, a disciplined professional, and a trusted teammate who exemplified leadership under pressure.
Following his military career, Bob continued his commitment to protecting others through his work with Air and Marine Operations. As an Air Interdiction Agent, he played a vital role in safeguarding national security, demonstrating exceptional expertise, integrity, and commitment in every mission he undertook. His professionalism and calm presence made him a respected figure among his peers.
Beyond his service, Bob was a devoted family man whose love and dedication to his family were at the center of his life. He was also an avid outdoorsman who found joy and peace in nature, often spending his free time pursuing outdoor activities that reflected his adventurous spirit and appreciation for the world around him.
