Police in Amherst, Nova Scotia, are appealing to the public for information following a fatal shooting on Prince Arthur Street on Monday evening. Authorities say the incident was reported at approximately 6:51 p.m., when a call came in about a man lying on the ground who appeared to be injured.
Officers responded to the scene and discovered a man suffering from a serious injury caused by a single gunshot wound. Emergency services transported him to hospital, but he later died as a result of his injuries, according to police.
In an update shared on social media, the Amherst Police Department stated that those responsible for the shooting fled the area in a vehicle shortly after the incident. Investigators have not yet released descriptions of the suspects or the vehicle involved.
Despite the severity of the call, police indicated that they do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the general public. The investigation remains active as officers work to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The incident has raised concern within the local community, particularly due to its proximity to the Cumberland Homelessness and Housing Support Association (CHHSA).
