GREENVILLE, S.C. — One police officer was shot and another injured in a downtown Greenville incident on Monday afternoon, according to authorities.
Greenville Police said officers responded to a reported assault along North Main Street near 233 N. Main St. just before 12:30 p.m. During the response, gunfire erupted, leaving one officer with a gunshot wound and a second officer injured.
Emergency crews transported both officers to a nearby hospital for treatment. Their conditions have not yet been publicly released.
Police confirmed that a suspect has been taken into custody in connection with the incident. No additional details about the suspect or a possible motive have been immediately provided.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is assisting at the scene, which is standard procedure in cases involving officer-involved shootings. Agents are expected to conduct an independent investigation, including gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses.
