A tragic road accident in Kurnool district on Thursday morning claimed the lives of eight people and left 12 others injured, according to local authorities. The fatal collision occurred near Chilakaladona village in Mantralayam mandal when a Bolero vehicle reportedly collided head-on with a ready-mix lorry under circumstances that are still being investigated.
Police said five occupants of the Bolero died at the scene due to the severity of the impact. Three additional victims later succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment at a hospital in Yemmiganur. The remaining injured passengers were transported to nearby medical facilities, where they are currently undergoing treatment.
Preliminary information suggests that the victims were pilgrims from the Chikmagaluru district of Karnataka. They were reportedly traveling to Mantralayam to seek darshan of Sri Raghavendra Swamy when the accident occurred.
Emergency responders and police reached the site shortly after the crash and carried out rescue operations, assisting the injured and clearing the damaged vehicles from the roadway. The area was temporarily affected as authorities managed traffic and secured the scene.
