An Ulster County man died Monday, April 13, following a motorcycle crash on Matteawan Road in Beacon, according to police.
Authorities identified the victim as Justin T. Brown, 33, of Gardiner. Beacon Police Chief Tom Figlia said officers responded to the scene at approximately 2:45 p.m., where Brown was found deceased following a single-vehicle crash near the intersection of Matteawan Road and Deer Run. The location is situated beyond the guard post for vehicles entering the Fishkill Correctional Facility.
Officials said the circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation. The Beacon Police Department is being assisted by the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office as investigators work to determine what led to the incident. A helmet was recovered at the scene as part of the ongoing inquiry.
The New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision confirmed that Brown was employed as a corrections officer at Fishkill Correctional Facility. He began his career with the agency in 2018. In response to his death, a crisis incident stress management team was deployed to the facility to support staff and colleagues.
Authorities have not yet released further details regarding possible contributing factors to the crash. The investigation remains active, and officials say additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
