A decorated Paralympic cyclist has been killed in a crash in McKinney, Texas, on Thursday afternoon, leaving the international cycling community in mourning.
McKinney Police confirmed that officers responded to a collision involving a cyclist and a vehicle at the intersection of Alma Drive and State Highway 121. When emergency crews arrived, they found the cyclist had suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said the driver involved remained at the scene following the crash, and investigators have confirmed the incident is not being treated as a hit-and-run. Selinger was a gold medalist at the 1996 Paralympic Games in Atlanta in track cycling, marking a major achievement in his sporting career.
He went on to earn a silver medal and two bronze medals at the 2000 Paralympic Games in Sydney, further cementing his status as one of the sport’s top competitors. In addition to his Paralympic success, Selinger also won gold medals at the 1998 and 2002 Para-cycling World Championships.
