It is with deep sadness that the Ipswich Grammar School Old Boys’ Association shares the passing of Old Boy Marcus Poniewierski, Class of 2015. Marcus’s loss is felt profoundly across the school community, where he was widely admired for his character, dedication, and achievements.
During his time at Ipswich Grammar School, Marcus distinguished himself as an outstanding student and leader. He served with pride as a Prefect, demonstrating integrity, responsibility, and a genuine commitment to his peers. Marcus was also an accomplished sportsman, playing an integral role in the school’s premiership-winning First V basketball team. His leadership qualities were further recognised in his role as co-captain of the 2nd V basketball team, where he inspired teammates through both his performance and sportsmanship.
Beyond basketball, Marcus was an active member of the cross country team, reflecting his determination and well-rounded involvement in school life. Academically, he excelled at the highest level, graduating with an OP 1—an achievement that highlighted his dedication, discipline, and intellectual ability.
Marcus will be remembered not only for his impressive accomplishments but also for the positive impact he had on those around him. He embodied the values of the Ipswich Grammar School community and left a lasting legacy that will not be forgotten.
Old Boys are invited to attend a memorial and celebration of Marcus’s life, to be held on Saturday, 16 May. Those seeking further details are encouraged to contact Marcus’s sister, Georgina.
At this incredibly difficult time, our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Marcus’s family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.
